Congratulations to our 2022-23 Exceptional Service Award winner Jennifer Schneider, Library Associate! The Exceptional Service Award is the district’s highest honor for classified staff members.

Estrella Foothills Global Academy students in Grades 6-8 are all part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Estrella Foothills received full authorization of becoming an IB school this past November. Students who are part of the Middle Years Programme strive to develop active learning skills that are internationally minded by empathizing with others. Students also develop critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning activities within the classroom. Three of our IB students have gone above and beyond demonstrating IB learner attributes.

Kayleigh Mauk- 8th grade- She has been accepted into the IB program at North High School next year. She demonstrates attributes of not only being knowledgeable but principled in all that she does in and out of the classroom.

Amari McCullum, Robert Wells- 7th grade- Demonstrated being inquirers and communicators in their IB summative writing assignment in English Language Arts. Students were asked to research and evaluate the Victorian Era and Industrial Revolution to make connections and explain the author’s purpose in Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” IB students in their junior year of high school are required to write a 2,000 word essay. These two students doubled that by writing over 4,000 words! Some EFGA middle school students have already completed the IB requirement to write 2,000 word essays. A few have even accomplished the 3,000 word essay, which is a senior high school IB requirement.

Enrolling a kindergartner next school year? Join us for an exploration of our kindergarten program on January 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Registration* for the 2023-24 school year will open on January 31. Apply online at www.LaveenSchools.org/registration. Bring your required documents to EFGA at Mission Kindergarten. You’ll also be able to visit kindergarten classrooms and meet the kindergarten staff.

Students may be enrolled in any of our schools regardless of where they live, space permitting. Families living outside of a school’s transportation zone will be responsible for providing transportation.

*Children must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2023 to register for kindergarten. Preschool for children ages 3-5 is offered at Desert Meadows, Estrella Foothills, Paseo Pointe, and Vista del Sur.

Congratulations to EFGA 4th Grade student Alrick James who won the Laveen School District Spelling Bee. Alrick will now compete with other district-level winners at the Regional Bee.

At January’s Governing Board meeting, kindergarten students from Estrella foothills demonstrated how Spalding helps create fluent readers. Teacher Irene Underwood led the discussion – explaining how the letter “g” makes two sounds. Students then read to the board members. Check out photos from the Board Meeting on our Flickr.
